The Municipal Cultural Enterprise of Chania was founded in 1993 and is a legal entity of the private law. It is run by an eleven-member administrative council and its main goals are:

• The conduction of a complete program of cultural development
• The creation of cultural infrastructures
• The development and promotion of art education and intellectual creation
• The promotion of dance, music, theatre, cinema, fine arts and photography
• Production and publishing
• The organization of cultural events
• The creation and support of any cultural and social intervention that will help the residents of Chania to spend their free time creatively and will contribute to the development of art education and expression.
