National Foundation of Research and Studies 'Eleftherios Venizelos'

The idea of the National Foundation of Research and Studies "Eleftherios Venizelos" was first conceived by the Eparch of Kissamos and Selino Eirineos Galanakis and was realized in 2000 by the foundation "Aghia Sofia", with the support of the local Church, the Prefecture of Chania, the Municipality of Chania, and other carriers in Crete and Greece.
It is the result of a collective effort of the people of Chania and of Crete in general. The foundation is hosted in the home city of the greatest Greek politician of the 20th century, and focuses on the study of his work and of his historical period.

The Foundation is hosted in the house of Eleftherios Venizelos, at the plateau of Elena Venizelos in Halepa. It is a 1877 building that acquired its present form in 1927, when Elefterios Venizelos ordered its renovation.
On March 2002, the house of Venizelos was assigned to the Greek State, which in turn assigned it to the foundation.  One of the major aims of the foundation is the preservation and projection of the historical house of the great politician and its function as a museum.
