The Court and Administrative House

The construction of the Court and Administrative House started during the last years of the Turkish occupation and was destined to become a Turkish army hospital. In 1893, in the years of independence, the management of the building was assigned to Mihalis Savakis and was later used as a Command Post.
This Hall is the second public building, after the Italian Barracks, built outside the walls of the old city. Its morphology and position greatly influenced the urban plan of the new city and the design of some of the central streets, as well as the creation of the plateau of the Court House. The building was renovated after a destructive fire in 1936, and a third floor was added to the central building.
The oblong building is divided in three wings with an atrium in the interior. The atrium, where pine trees are planted, is organized in two levels: a lower level and two higher ones left and right from the central entrance to the court house.
Nowadays, it hosts half of the administrative services of the Prefecture (on its north side) and the Court House (on its south side).
Address: Plateau "Eleftherias" (plateau of Freedom)
