The Open University was founded in the Municipality of Chania in 2005 and its main purpose is to give people the change to acquire higher education, when this opportunity was not available for them in the past. The Open University became very popular very fast, and other branches were founded in different parts of Crete.

The Open University offers high quality education and a highly qualified academic staff to those who wish to obtain a University Degree. The academic year extends from October to April. All citizens have the right to apply and attend the classes of the Open University.
