Koum Kapi

In the exterior of the east Venetian walls, near the sandy beach, a village of poor North African slaves and Ottomans was built. They lived in tents and huts and did all the harsh jobs in the portside.
This region was called in Turkish Kum Kapisi (Gate of the Sand) from the Venetian gate which is still preserved in our days.

Today "Koum Kapi" is one of the most developed districts of the city which gathers thousands of visitors every summer who come to enjoy the view to the sea and the numerous high quality cafeterias and restaurants.
