The water sports center of Souda is located on the coastline of the gulf of Souda, 1,2 km from the port of Souda,10km from the airport of Chania and 1,5 km from the Chania-Rethymno national road.

 

The construction of the water sports center was completed in 1989 and was renovated on 2003. The center was included in the training guide of the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Today, Souda's water sports center is one of the few modern water sports centers in the country and the only one in south Greece, and is considered one of the best water sports center in the Balkans. The protection (mainly from the wind) offered by the natural gulf of Souda provides the perfect conditions for training and learning various water sports. Some of the sports available at the center include sailing, canoeing-kayaking, tennis, cycling, Tae Kwon Do, volleyball, and many others. Special programmes are available for children and women in modern infrastructures, as well as for the training of the students from the local high school.

 

The center has hosted several important sport events (international watercraft rowing competitions, international tennis games- Sattelite, Futures- Greek sailing and tennis championships, Tae - Kwon- Do tournaments, volley and cycling competitions, as well as European sailing tournaments).

Building Infrastructure

The basic building complex of the sport center consists of four large buildings. Three of them are interconnected through other spaces and corridors.

 

The total surface of the covered spaces is over 2300 square meters and includes:

• Closed watercraft rowing training room, εμβ. 300 τ.μ.
• Four rowing boat storage areas,
• Space for multiple athletic use
• Gymnastics- weights room with modern equipment
• Special organized spaces for the training of watercraft rowing athletes
• Well-equipped locker rooms with saunas and baths.
• Aerobics room
• Medical room- physiotherapy
• Administrative offices
• Seminar room with modern audiovisual equipment
• Computer rooms with access to the internet
• Cafeteria- snack bar
• Leisure areas for athletes and visitors

 

The center's open spaces include:

• Four tennis - hard courts
• Parking lots for 300 private vehicles.
• Gardens and parks.

 

 

The Public Gym of Souda

The public gym of Souda is also located within the water sports center and offers to the municipality's residents a variety of high quality gym programs (aerobics, weight room, yoga, ect) with well-trained staff and modern equipment.

 

The gym is open to the public from 17:00 - 21:00 every day except Saturday and Sunday.
